Free ‘Bike Register’ events – North Somerset

Event details

Date: Tuesday 16 January, 2018, 15:00 - Thursday 18 January, 2018, 18:00

Residents are being given the chance by North Somerset Council to get their bicycle marked and its details registered on the national cycle database used by the police.

‘Bike Register’ deters cycle thieves and reunites stolen bikes with their owners, working in partnership with all UK police forces.

The marking kits, which usually retail at £19.99, are being offered for free through the Department for Transport’s Access Fund for Sustainable Travel. They protect your bike with a permanent ID etch. A tamper-proof sticker is also provided, which warns potential thieves that the bike is registered and acts as a deterrent.

Don’t give thieves an easy ride – it only takes seconds to spot an unlocked bike and steal it.

Call into one of our events at local railway stations this January between 3 and 6 pm with your bike – it should only take about five minutes.

Events will be held at railway stations on:

  • Tuesday 16 January – Nailsea and Backwell
  • Wednesday 17 January – Worle
  • Thursday 18 January – Weston-super-Mare.

There will also be an opportunity to speak to travel advisors about local cycle routes.

If you are new to cycling you will also be able to find out more about free adult cycle training and the council’s ‘Borrow a Bike’ scheme.
