Businesses, schools and community organisations based in North Somerset can now apply for a contribution of up to £3,000 towards schemes which make it easier for their staff, students or visitors to make their journeys more sustainable and leave their car at home.
Grants are 50:50 match-funded and can be used to improve cycling, walking, car share and other sustainable travel provisions on site. Funded by the DfT’s Access fund for Sustainable Travel, last financial year saw 17 travel grant applications approved and inspired more than £75,000 of match funding from the organisations themselves. Examples of funded schemes include shower facilities, cycle shelters, pool bikes, a scoot/cycle/running track and a permanent outdoor cycle repair station.
Successful applicants Worle Community School said of the scheme:
“We would like to say thank you to North Somerset Council for awarding us a business travel grant which enabled us to purchase a new staff bicycle shelter, which also freed up space for more student bicycle parking. Together with the collaboration of experts from the council travel team this has helped us to continue on our journey to improve and encourage sustainable travel. We are already planning to apply for another grant for a future scheme.”
The funding window is now open until Friday 29 June.
