Hutton residents are being asked to give their views on plans for a 20mph zone in the village.
North Somerset Council and Hutton Parish Council are consulting on plans to introduce the zone in order to create a safe environment for school students, the wider community and all those moving around the village. The scheme supports North Somerset Council’s commitment to encourage sustainable travel as part of it’s pledge to be carbon neutral by 2030.
The preliminary designs include a combination of signage and road markings to slow speeds in the village. Proposals also include:
- 20mph gateway signs at the entrances to the village
- no changes to parking
- removal of 40mph at the west of the village
- improvement to pedestrian facilities.
Cllr Steve Hogg, North Somerset Council’s executive member with responsibility for highways said this scheme aimed to improve safety for everyone travelling around the village.
Improving sustainable travel is a corporate priority for us and part of our commitment to be carbon neutral by 2030. By creating a safer environment to walk and cycle around the village we hope to encourage more people to leave the car at home.
Cllr Mike Solomon, North Somerset Council’s ward member for Hutton added:
These 20 mph zones are important through Hutton as we have many horse riders, cyclists and areas without pavements that pedestrians use . It’s imperative we keep people safe by encouraging cars to go slower on our narrow roads.
People are also being invited to attend a drop in session on Thursday 27 October at Hutton Village Hall between 1pm and 6pm. The event will be attended by officers from North Somerset Council and members of Hutton Parish Council.
After this event, a formal online consultation will be held. People have until Monday 14 November to have their say.
Following this, North Somerset Council will return with a formal consultation on the final plans, incorporating all the feedback received.
