Cyclists using Yate Station can now benefit from 20 brand new secure cycle lockers, making it easier to combine bike and train journeys.
The new lockers provide safe, weatherproof bike storage and are available to hire from South Gloucestershire Council.
They’ve been installed by the Council with funding from Great Western Railway’s Customer and Community Improvement Fund, as part of GWR’s Railway 200 celebrations marking 200 years of the modern railway.
South Gloucestershire Council’s Cabinet Member for Planning, Regeneration and Infrastructure, Councillor Chris Willmore, said:
It’s fantastic to see these new cycle lockers being installed at Yate train station, providing residents with a secure and convenient way to store their bikes.
Encouraging active travel is a key priority for us, and facilities like this make it easier for people to choose cycling for part of their journey, which will help to reduce car journeys and relieve pressure on local roads.
We’re pleased to work with GWR and thank them for their support to help us deliver this improvement, which will benefit local people and support more sustainable travel choices.
The lockers are located in the station car park and are available to hire on a long-term basis. A small number remain available, so early applications are encouraged.
Locker applications are now open via the South Gloucestershire Council website.
