Learn to Ride: Intensive

This course is for older learners who want to build their confidence learning to cycle in a smaller group.

Grouped by age, there are two categories 8+ and 11+.

This is a more focused session designed for children who may have previously struggled to learn to cycle. This intensive session gives older beginners the space, time, and support they need to achieve their first independent ride.

We are here to help riders to take the next step in their cycling journey with confidence.

About this session

• These sessions are tailored to support children aged 8+ and 11+ with personalised guidance from our Bikeability trained instructors.
• Each rider learns at their own pace, starting with balancing and progressing to pedalling independently.
• With a smaller group size, riders have more time with instructors and benefit from a calmer learning environment.
• The course is held on our top courts and is reserved for learners only during this session. There is an entry fee for family members who want to cycle around the track while the course is in progress. Adults must take full responsibility for their own children, as staff supervision is focused on the learning group.
• Once a rider can pedal independently and complete a lap of the track, they are encouraged to move on to our Learn to Ride Next Steps course to develop further skills including starting and stopping, steering, signalling and gears.
• Every learner’s journey is different—some may gain confidence quickly, while others will need a few sessions to get going. The smaller group format helps each child feel more supported and less rushed.

Note: We limit the amount of people on site to ensure everyone has the chance to work with our instructors and access our cycles.

Please call us in advance to check there is space if you are hoping to come last minute. We may have to turn you away if you haven’t registered.
