The 2022 Great Weston Ride is taking place on Sunday 17th July 2022.
The Great Weston Ride is a challenging 57-mile recreational bike ride from Bristol to Weston-super-Mare via the Mendips and Somerset Levels, and online entry for the 2022 GWR is OPEN – the Ride is taking place on Sunday 17th July 2022, it will be the 13th edition of the GWR, and the aim is for it to be every bit as successful and enjoyable as all the previous outings.
It’s a truly spectacular route and the Ride is suitable for all sorts of riders, from complete novices to experienced, regular cyclists – it has something to offer everyone, and it’s really about having fun and rising to your own personal challenge!
The Ride sets off from Long Ashton Park & Ride where there is an abundance of free parking and safe drop-off areas, and riders are able to depart between 8am and 9.30am (although registration opens from 7.30am for anyone who wants to arrive early).
There’s no paperwork to bring – riders submit a ‘Rider Details’ form in advance as part of the entry process so on the day itself they simply have to report to the registration desk to sign in and collect their rider number, and then it’s just a case of heading off to the start when they’re ready to go!
Depending on final numbers, riders will set off in small groups approximately 1-2 minutes apart. Inevitably, there’s likely to be a bit of a queue/wait to set off, however there’s absolutely no rush with the GWR and anyone who prefers a more ‘relaxed’ start is welcome (and advised) to join the start line nearer 9am.
The Ride finishes 57 miles later on the seafront in Weston-super-Mare and it’s hoped that riders will encourage family and friends to come along and help them to celebrate their achievement by cheering them across the line.
There’s plenty of open space at the finish on the Beach Lawns and supporters are very welcome – the more the merrier! There will be food and bar facilities available to everyone at the finish area, and these are for the exclusive use of Ride participants and their supporters.
Riders need to be in Weston by 5pm latest (or 4.45pm if booked onto our transport service), after which time the event will begin to knock down.
You can enter for as many people (adults and Under 16s) as you wish, and just make one combined payment. You can also book any transport needs on the Online Entry page. Payment is secure and you can use either a debit or credit card to make payment.
Please note that Under 16s MUST be accompanied by a responsible adult, and the recommended minimum rider age is 14.
